Ripcord Evacuates Climber via Helicopter from Camp 2 on Mount Everest

Posted on Posted in Medical Evacuation, Rescue

A climber with Ripcord’s medical evacuation coverage was on Mt Everest when he severely injured his ankle an hour and a half climb above Camp 2. His guide assessed the injury, supplied him with medication, and determined he needed immediate medical attention and could not descend under his own power.

His guide contacted Redpoint via sat phone, who immediately launched a helicopter rescue. In the meantime, the client’s guide and Sherpa team managed to carry him to Camp 2, where they rendezvoused with the waiting helicopter.

Redpoint evacuated the client to a Kathmandu hospital.
